About the project
The Municipal District of Taber, as the owner and operator of the Taber Regional Airport, is committed to the progressive governance and development of this vital regional asset. In collaboration with neighbouring municipalities, the MD of Taber has commissioned the development of an Airport Expansion Feasibility Study and Master Plan.
This initiative aims to:
- Evaluate the airport’s current role and value within the region
- Identify opportunities to enhance its economic impact, social benefits, and revenue generation
- Develop a costed, multiyear strategy that reflects the priorities of residents, businesses, stakeholders, and municipalities
A key component of this project is community engagement. Input from residents will help shape the future of the airport by informing the study and guiding strategic recommendations. The MD of Taber is gathering public perspectives to ensure the final plan reflects the community’s vision and needs.
Participation in this engagement process is voluntary, and all responses will remain anonymous. The information collected will be used exclusively by the MD of Taber for this study and related airport initiatives.

Final Taber Regional Airport Master Plan
The Taber Regional Airport Master Plan is the first comprehensive long-term planning strategy completed for the airport in its more than 50-year history. The plan evaluates the airport’s role in supporting agriculture, air ambulance services, business travel, emergency response, and regional economic development, while identifying infrastructure improvements and strategic priorities needed to ensure its continued sustainability and growth. Developed through stakeholder and public engagement, the Master Plan provides a roadmap for airport development and operations from 2026 to 2035, while protecting for future opportunities beyond that horizon.

Initiation & community input
This includes background research, a site visit, and listening to stakeholders and the community to understand needs and context.
Strategic direction
At this stage, we look at the airport’s profile, identify growth and revenue opportunities, and set the overall strategic direction for moving forward.
Planning for the future
At this stage, we define future infrastructure needs, study runway extension options, and create development and land use plans to support long-term growth.
Feasibility & impact study
At this stage, we develop a capital plan and funding strategy, analyze the social and economic impacts, and provide draft, interim, and final reports. The results will be presented publicly in early 2026.
