NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING SEPT 22: Proposed Bylaw No. 2036
A Public Hearing to consider Proposed Bylaw No. 2036 will be held on:
Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 1:00 pm
Location: MD of Taber Council Chambers, 4900B – 50 Street, Taber, AB
Proposed Bylaw: No. 2036 Land Use Bylaw Amendment
Purpose: Bylaw No. 2036 is to implement amendments identified through the review of Land Use Bylaw No. 2011, which was conducted one year after its adoption, to ensure the bylaw is functioning as intended and manageable for administrative staff, supported by existing processes, and practical to implement. The proposed bylaw includes amendments to:
- Improve clarity to administrative processes for ease of use and clarity for applicants;
- Correct clerical and technical errors that do not materially affect the bylaw in principle or substance;
- Enhance consistency in application requirements and review;
- Reduce recurring waivers to established standards:
- In the Hamlet Residential – HR land use district for: ancillary residential buildings and structures; and lot size and height requirements for duplex and semi-detached development; and
- For Signs in all districts;
- Provide additional allowance for Shipping Container use in the Grouped Country Residential - GCR land use district; and
- Establish Data Centre as a distinct discretionary use within certain land use districts, together with specific development permit application requirements and locational criteria, rather than considering such use under the existing Rural Industrial Class B provisions for data warehousing (cryptocurrency mining).
Actions to take
Anyone wishing to submit written comments or make an in-person presentation to Council on the proposed bylaws should submit responses and intentions for presentation to the MD of Taber Administration by email, or by mail to the address below no later than 12:00 noon on September 15, 2026. Both written and/or verbal presentations may be given at the Council Meeting.
Anyone wishing to participate or attend the public hearing by electronic means is required to register in advance here, on or before 4:00 pm on September 21, 2026.
