A permit is not required for a building or structure associated with extensive agriculture or grazing except for dwellings, and is not located within 150 feet of the centre line of any municipal road.
Land used for farming purposes is assessed at agricultural use value with different rates applied for pasture land as native or improved and dryland as dryland rates and irrigation land as irrigated land values, as per Alberta farmland regulations.
The first 3 acres in conjuction with the residence is assessed at market value with a exemption applied to the residence based on the amount of agricultural use value of farmland in the owners farm unit up to a maximum exemption of $61,540 for the first residence and for each additional residence $30,770.
Farm use buildings on a parcel greater than 3 acres are not assessed.
